My name's Zuzanna, I'm 21 and I'm an apprentice wing designer here at Airbus.

I wanted to find out how I could get a degree for free so I decided to try the apprenticeship route because it's really good experience, it's a free degree and it's great to get paid as you learn.

So I did Triple Science at GCSE which then lead me to doing Physics, Maths and Product Design at A-Level. At that point, I realised I wanted to do a creative subject that also has Physics in it.

So when designing a wing, we must consider the aerodynamic forces affecting it, the thrust given by the engines, the air resistance and the weight of the wing. Using computers helps me simulate turbulence or weather conditions that the aircraft will have to deal with in flight.

Initially we'd have a team meeting to discuss ideas having a look at the prototypes we've created. We look for design solutions to make the aircraft as efficient as possible.

Zuzanna has been a great apprentice. She's bringing a lot of new ideas to the team taking knowledge from her studies. And one of the parts she's designed will be on the flying aircraft in a few months’ time. She's been great.

The best part of my job is to see the parts I design get built, and put on the aircraft.

Some people believe that after leaving school you've got to either do an apprenticeships or uni. And I think you can do both. It's really fun to work on real projects, with new people.

I got to move cities; I still get the uni experience so it's a wealth of benefits.
