Floor Tiles in the Muniments Room

These tiles are the original tiles found in the Muniments room above the Warming Room in Fountains Abbey. The tiles were used as a practical way of flooring the room.

The Muniments Room was used to store important documents. During the Winter months, the huge fires in the Warming Room would release heat up into the Muniments Room, and prevent the documents from becoming damp.
