This is a Coldstream Guards capstar which I found buried in my garden 20 years ago. It has been dated by the National Army Museum as around the turn of the 20th century. I imagine that it would have been dropped by a guardsman, perhaps on manoeuvres in the area, in the years prior to the 1st World War when the Regiment served with great distinction losing many casualties. For me it holds special significance because I served for 36 years in the Coldstream Guards until 2004! I was speechless when I found it and I now have it framed on the wall in my study. I wonder what became of the original owner at a turbulant time in our history.
